No country for old men is an American crime thriller which tells the story of of an ordinary man whom chance delivers a fortune that is not his.It shows a cat and mouse chase where three men cross each others paths in the landscape of 1980 West Texas. The film shows themes such as fate while still following the villain driven plot.
The villain Anton Chigurh is a hired Hit-man who does not seem to posses any compassion for other human beings. He seems to think it is his given right to decide who lives and who dies and enjoys killing people and we see this when he flips a coin to decide the fate of the oblivious shop owner. The weapon that he chooses to use is a bolt pistol which he also uses to blow locks on doors. The audience know little about him due to his lack of speech, which makes him a very mysterious.
This trailer is effective because it gives the audience a taste of the tension and suspense that they would experience during the film. It a very slow paced trailer with the right combination of dead bodies , blood and slow tracking shots to make it captivating.
This films is set in Texas the setting is very ordinary unlike the usual exotic setting used in most thrillers this makes the film and the characters seem very ordinary and therefore vulnerable , this contributes to the suspense because the characters with the exception of the villain always seem to be in grave danger.
The realistic atmosphere is also created by the silence used in tense situations , they keep the audience excited and on the edge of their seat , using minimal dialogue and minimal action but by incorporating the build up to the action ending in a climax or sometimes ant-climax.
The costumes are very dull and ark colors adding to the dark atmosphere of the film.
