Collateral

A cab driver finds himself the hostage of an engaging contract killer as he makes his rounds from hit to hit during one night in Los Angeles. He must find a way to save both himself and one last victim.

Collateral (2004)  TRAILER

LA cabbie Max Durocher is the type of person who can wax poetic about other people's lives, which impresses U.S. Justice Department prosecutor Annie Farrell, one of his fares, so much that she gives him her telephone number at the end of her ride. Although a dedicated man as seen through the efficiency in which he does his work, he can't or won't translate that eloquence into a better life for himself. He deludes himself into believing that his now twelve year cabbie job is temporary and that someday he will own his own limousine service. He even lies to his hospitalized mother that he already owns one, with a further lie that he tells her as such primarily to make her happy, rather than the truth which is that he won't do anything to achieve that dream. One night, Max picks up a well dressed man named Vincent, who asks Max to be his only fare for the evening. For a flat fee of $600, plus an extra $100 if he gets to the airport on time - Vincent wants Max to drive him to five stops

The Manchurian candidate

The Manchurian Candidate (1962) Poster        Major Ben Marco is an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army. He served valiantly as a captain in the Korean war and his Sergeant, Raymond Shaw, even won the Medal of Honor. Marco has a major problem however: he has a recurring nightmare, one where two members of his squad are killed by Shaw. He's put on indefinite sick leave and visits Shaw in New York. Shaw for his part has established himself well, despite the misgivings of his domineering mother, Mrs. Eleanor Shaw Iselin. She is a red-baiter, accusing anyone who disagrees with her right-wing reactionary views of being a Communist. Raymond hates her, not only for how she's treated him but equally because of his step-father, the ineffectual U.S. Senator John Iselin, who is intent on seeking higher office. When Marco learns that others in his Korean War unit have nightmares similar to his own, he realizes that something happened to all of them in Korea and that Raymond Shaw is the focal point

The trailer of this film is is very effective , because it gives you a highlight of what to expect in the film. When it cuts into the writing setting the scene it uses assertion making it seems like it is addressing the audience personally. This makes the trailer very engaging to the audience and demands their attention. There is a lot of action which appeals to a male audience and there is also an attractive male character and an attractive female character which appeals to both a male and female audience.

Alfred Hitchcock

Sir Alfred Hitchcock was an English film director and producer. He was born on August the 13th of 1899 in Leytenstone and died in Los Angeles on the 29th of April 1980.

Hitchcock was first recognized for his film psycho. He was the founding father of psychological thriller and one of the first directors to explore the use of suspense in films. Another example of Hitchcock's technical virtuosity was his creation of  subjective sound for the film Blackmail.

The style of Hitchcock's films was greatly influenced by his upbringing Hitchcock's catholic father planted a seed of fear in him from a young age. He was a police man and once locked him in a police cell for 5 minutes to teach him a lesson about crime this experience left him deeply shaken up. Being a bit of a loner as he grew up , Hitchcock expressed himself through his films.

"The only way to get rid of my fears is to make films about them"

Altogether Freud made about 53 films. What really made him stand out was his willingness to break conversions , for example psycho though not his best film was so popular because of a huge element of shock. He had a very unique way of thinking , and people were attracted to the element of thrill and fear in his films. He was one of the first directors to demand the audiences full attention.

"Always make the audience suffer as much as possible"
